Whether it’s for a job interview, a live stream, a video conference, or just a professional portrait, the idea of being on camera can be nerve-wracking. We nitpick our appearance, focus on our flaws, and it can get even worse when you’re having a bad hair day. Choose the Right Outfit

The first tip to make yourself more comfortable in front of the camera is to choose the right outfit. What you wear will affect how comfortable you feel on camera, so it’s important to choose something that is appropriate for the occasion and that makes you feel confident. Choose an outfit that you know looks good on you, and that you feel comfortable wearing. If you’re dressing up a little one for their first professional portrait, as many of my customers do, I recommend you check out some of my portfolio work for ideas on what type of outfits infants and toddlers do best in for photoshoots. Practice

The second tip to make yourself more comfortable in front of the camera is to practice. Before you’re in front of the camera, practice your pose and smile. This will help you to be more confident and will also help you to avoid any awkwardness that could come from missing the pose and having to redo professional portrait photography. Additionally, practicing in front of a mirror can help you become more comfortable with yourself and with being in front of the camera — think of it as a type of exposure therapy. The more photos you take, and the more comfortable you are in front of the camera, the less anxiety! Have Fun

You can also make yourself more comfortable in front of the camera by having fun. Remind yourself that it’s ok to have fun and that you don’t have to take yourself too seriously! Experienced photographers will understand that not everyone is instantly comfortable in front of the camera, and most are willing to work with you.
