Newborn baby boy at 16 days old sleeping peacefully in soft gray wraps and blankets during a studio session in Lodi, California.

Baby Armando was just 16 days old during his newborn session, and he was such a dream to photograph. He had the sweetest expressions and the most perfect little features. From the moment his session started, he settled right into each pose, letting us capture a beautiful mix of sleepy and relaxed portraits.

We used soft gray tones and cozy textures for his session, which gave every image a timeless and classic feel. These colors worked so well with his gorgeous dark hair and smooth skin, keeping the focus on his sweet face. One of my favorite parts of his session was the little penguin prop he held — a small detail that added something extra special to his gallery.

Armando’s parents chose a simple, neutral look for their newborn session, which is always a favorite in the studio. It allows each photo to feel soft and organic, perfect for displaying on the wall or in an album. The lighting was calm and even, creating that peaceful glow that makes newborn portraits so beautiful.

Newborn sessions like this are best done within the first few weeks of life, when babies are still sleepy and easy to pose. Every tiny detail, from their eyelashes to their fingers and toes, changes so quickly, which makes this stage so important to capture.

If you’re expecting and thinking about scheduling a newborn session, I always recommend reaching out during your second trimester to reserve your date. My Lodi studio is fully equipped and designed for comfort so both parents and baby can relax while we create these lasting memories.
