Serving Davis
Timeless newborn portraits for Davis families — photographed in a private studio in the heart of Lodi.
Families across Davis trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Davis and throughout the Central Valley.
Davis is about 45 minutes northwest of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Newborn dates are held by your estimated due date rather than by the calendar, so a handful of Davis families reserve theirs each month — the earlier you reach out, the better.
The Studio
Worth the drive to Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For newborn sessions the room is the whole point: held at eighty degrees, sound kept low, and every wrap, headband and prop laid out before you arrive. Nothing has to be fetched, and nobody has to wait with a cold baby. Davis families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Sessions for Davis families
Every session, all in one place
Davis
A little about Davis
Davis took its own ideas seriously and became a better town for it: the most bicycle-oriented city in the country, a farmers market among the best regarded anywhere, and a university arboretum that runs for miles along the creek through the middle of town.
Downtown is a proper college downtown — low brick blocks, bookshops, bicycles chained to everything, and Central Park at one end where the market sets up twice a week. It is small enough to cross on foot in ten minutes and dense enough to be worth doing.
Many Davis families are here for graduate study or academic work, which means first babies a long way from grandparents and photographs that will be looked at over video calls before they are held. Sessions come to the Lodi studio, about forty-five minutes southeast — newborn work needs the warm room, and the warm room is here.
Two practical things follow from Davis being a university town. The first is timing: a great many families here are on an academic clock, and a baby arriving mid-term with a dissertation to finish leaves very little planning capacity, so sessions from Davis are more often booked in advance during the pregnancy and simply confirmed later. The second is distance from family. When grandparents are a flight or an ocean away, the printed album stops being an upsell and becomes the actual point — the thing that goes in the post and gets held by the people who could not come.
“Jesica Allen was an absolute joy to work with for our newborn session! From the moment we arrived, she made the entire experience feel easy, relaxed, and so special.”

Davis — good to know
Do you photograph Davis families?
Yes — Davis is part of our core service area, about 45 minutes northwest of Lodi. Davis families book newborn sessions here every month.
Where do Davis newborn sessions take place?
In the private Lodi studio. Newborn work needs steady warmth, a controlled room and every wrap and prop within reach, which is why it is not photographed in homes or outdoors.
When should Davis families book a newborn session?
Reserve your date by your due date, ideally in the second or third trimester. Davis-area newborn dates fill quickly because each one is held against a birth rather than a calendar slot.
How far is Davis from the studio?
About forty-five minutes southeast, an easy run with a newborn asleep in the back. Davis is a genuinely delightful town to come from — it took its own ideas seriously and is a much better place for it, with greenbelts running end to end and an arboretum most cities would envy.
Can the session happen at our house?
No — newborn work is studio work. The room holds near eighty degrees for two or three hours, the light does not move, and every wrap and prop is to hand. It is the one part of the process that genuinely cannot be carried to Davis in a bag.
We are here for a few years for academic work. Does that change anything?
It changes what the photographs are for, and it is worth saying so at booking. Many Davis families are photographing a first baby a long way from home, for grandparents who have not met them. Sessions like that more often put the parents properly in frame and finish with something printed to post rather than only a gallery link.
Should we photograph anything in Davis itself?
Do come back for it. The UC Davis arboretum runs for miles along the creek through the middle of town and is the single best piece of ground for portraits within an hour of the studio — and for families who will remember living in Davis, it is the place worth having in the frame.
