Serving Tracy

Timeless newborn portraits for Tracy families — photographed in a private studio in the heart of Lodi.

Families across Tracy trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Tracy and throughout the Central Valley.

Tracy is about 40 minutes southwest of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Newborn dates are held by your estimated due date rather than by the calendar, so a handful of Tracy families reserve theirs each month — the earlier you reach out, the better.

The Studio

Worth the drive to Lodi

The Jesica Allen Photography studio in Lodi, CA, serving Tracy families

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.

For newborn sessions the room is the whole point: held at eighty degrees, sound kept low, and every wrap, headband and prop laid out before you arrive. Nothing has to be fetched, and nobody has to wait with a cold baby. Tracy families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Tracy

A little about Tracy

Tracy sits at the valley's western gate, where the Altamont drops down out of the Bay Area, and it has become the town Bay Area families move to when they want room for children. The farmland around it still sets the tone: open sky, long light, and a horizon you can actually see, which is rarer than it sounds.

The old downtown around Central Avenue keeps the railroad-town bones — Tracy grew up as a junction, and the grid still reflects it. It is a working main street rather than a boutique one, and the better for it.

The studio is about forty minutes east. For families making that drive, the practical booking is maternity and newborn together: one trip late in the third trimester, one in the fortnight after the birth. Newborn sessions are studio sessions — the room has to be warm and the props to hand, and neither travels.

Tracy's best building is the Grand Theatre on Central Avenue, put up in 1923 for vaudeville and silent films, given a sculptural art deco marquee at the end of the thirties, closed in 1977, and reopened in 2007 as a proper arts centre after the city restored it. Since 2015 its walls and the market building beside it have carried a rotating mural project, so the street genuinely changes from year to year. It is not where a newborn session happens — that is the studio, forty minutes east — but it is the most photogenic corner of the town by a distance.

Tracy — good to know

Do you photograph Tracy families?

Yes — Tracy is part of our core service area, about 40 minutes southwest of Lodi. Tracy families book newborn sessions here every month.

Where do Tracy newborn sessions take place?

In the private Lodi studio. Newborn work needs steady warmth, a controlled room and every wrap and prop within reach, which is why it is not photographed in homes or outdoors.

When should Tracy families book a newborn session?

Reserve your date by your due date, ideally in the second or third trimester. Tracy-area newborn dates fill quickly because each one is held against a birth rather than a calendar slot.

Tracy is forty minutes out. How do families make that work?

The practical booking is maternity and newborn together: one trip late in the third trimester, one in the fortnight after the birth. Two drives across the most important months of your life is a fair trade, and Tracy families make it happily. It is a town with real character — the western gate of the valley, where the Altamont drops down and the sky opens up.

Why does the session have to be at the studio?

Because newborn work needs a room, not a bag. Eighty degrees for two or three hours, light that does not shift, and every wrap and prop to hand. Neither the heat nor the props travel, and a baby who is even slightly cold will not settle into a single one of those shapes.

When should we book?

Second or third trimester, held against your due date rather than a calendar slot. Only a handful of newborn dates exist in any month because each one waits on a birth, and they go early. If the baby is already here, ask anyway — a later session is a different set of pictures, not a missed one.

Can any of Tracy be in the photographs?

Not the newborn session, which is indoors at eighty degrees — but do come back for a family session downtown. The Grand Theatre on Central Avenue is the most photogenic corner of the town by a distance: built in 1923 for vaudeville and silent pictures, given a sculptural art deco marquee at the end of the thirties, and lovingly restored by the city in 2007.
