A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For family sessions the space is what matters — room enough to photograph three generations without anyone pressed against a wall, a lounge for whoever is not in front of the camera, and a playspace that buys the twenty minutes small children will not otherwise give you. A little about Tracy
Tracy is where the Altamont drops out of the Bay Area into the valley, and it has become the town Bay Area families move to when they want room for children. The farmland gives open sky and a horizon you can actually see.
The old downtown around Central Avenue keeps its railroad-junction bones, Tracy having grown up as a rail town, and the grid still shows it. It is a working main street rather than a restored one — honest backdrop rather than pretty one.
All that openness means golden hour rather than midday, because there is almost no shade to work with. The studio is about forty minutes east, which many Tracy families prefer through a valley summer, when outdoors at any hour is more endurance than pleasure for a four-year-old.
For families who want something with more character than open farmland, downtown has one genuine landmark: the Grand Theatre on Central Avenue, built in 1923, given a sculptural art deco marquee at the end of the thirties, dark from 1977, and restored and reopened by the city in 2007 as an arts centre. Since 2015 its walls and the market building next door have carried a rotating mural project that is repainted as new work arrives. It is a short, walkable block, there is somewhere to eat at the end of it, and it changes from one year to the next.
