Serving Modesto
Relaxed, timeless family portraits for Modesto — in the Lodi studio or outdoors in the light your family actually lives in.
Families across Modesto trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Modesto and throughout the Central Valley.
Modesto is about 45 minutes south of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Family sessions run year-round, though autumn light books first — Modesto families planning around holiday cards usually reserve by late summer.
The Studio
Worth the drive to Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For family sessions the space is what matters — room enough to photograph three generations without anyone pressed against a wall, a lounge for whoever is not in front of the camera, and a playspace that buys the twenty minutes small children will not otherwise give you. Modesto families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Sessions for Modesto families
Every session, all in one place
Modesto
A little about Modesto
Modesto's arch has stood at Ninth and I since 1912, spelling Water Wealth Contentment Health in light bulbs, and it still lights every evening. The town is George Lucas's, and the summer he filmed as American Graffiti is marked here every June along the same cruise route he drove.
The Victorian blocks around the McHenry Mansion are the quieter beauty and the better ground for a family portrait — mature trees, deep porches, and architecture with something to say. Outside town the almond and walnut orchards start immediately in every direction.
Modesto is about forty-five minutes south of the studio, the furthest of the valley towns, so families here tend to book a full session rather than a quick one — often the whole first year at once, which turns several decisions into one.
Given the distance, the sessions that work best here are the ones with a plan. The Victorian streets around the McHenry Mansion and the orchards outside town are ten minutes apart, so a single session can cover both — the architecture first while the children are still fresh, the open rows afterwards at golden hour when they can be allowed to run. October is the month everyone wants and the one that books first. Families here often settle the whole year in one conversation, which given forty-five minutes each way is simply the sensible way to do it.
“We had such a wonderful experience with our family portraits. Jessica was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive — especially with our six-month-old.”

Modesto — good to know
Do you photograph Modesto families?
Yes — Modesto is part of our core service area, about 45 minutes south of Lodi. Modesto families book family sessions here every month.
Where do Modesto family sessions take place?
Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Modesto and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.
When should Modesto families book a family session?
Any time of year. Autumn is the busiest for outdoor family sessions around Modesto, so families wanting that light book it by late summer.
Where do family sessions happen in Modesto?
Downtown for the 1912 arch across Ninth and I — Water Wealth Contentment Health, which is a lovely thing to stand a family under — and the Victorian mansion nearby. The orchards and open farmland outside town give long golden hour and a real horizon.
When should we book?
Spring or October, either side of the valley summer. October fills first because of the cards that follow, so hold a date over the summer. March in the orchards outside town is the underbooked alternative and every bit as pretty.
Should we come during Graffiti Summer?
If it suits you, absolutely — it is the best week of Modesto's year. The town George Lucas grew up in still fills its streets every June for it, and a family session built around that is genuinely special. Do say so at booking, because downtown is busy and the session is planned differently.
What if the weather or the heat is against us?
The studio is about forty-five minutes north, and through a Modesto July that is very often the kinder answer for everyone. Families here commonly photograph outdoors in October and again in the studio in February, which covers the cards and the winter wall.
