A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For family sessions the space is what matters — room enough to photograph three generations without anyone pressed against a wall, a lounge for whoever is not in front of the camera, and a playspace that buys the twenty minutes small children will not otherwise give you. A little about Manteca
Manteca kept its small-town calendar through two decades of growth — the pumpkin fair still fills Library Park every October, and most of the town still turns out for it. That autumn window is also when family sessions book fastest here, for the light and for the cards that follow.
Downtown is compact and quietly improving, restored frontages around the library park, and it has the unhurried feel of a town that grew outward rather than upward. The orchards start again a few minutes out in any direction and are the better setting of the two.
The studio is about twenty-five minutes north. Families with small children often start outdoors and finish inside, which sounds like indecision and is in fact the most reliable way to get everybody photographed before the youngest has had enough.
October is the month here, and for a reason: something between seventy and eighty per cent of California's pumpkins come out of the fields around Manteca, and those fields turn in a way that photographs beautifully with children in them. The Pumpkin Fair has run in Library Park for more than fifty years, started by the growers themselves. The park is the prettier civic setting the rest of the year — a 1930s baseball diamond turned green space, with a gazebo, a water feature and murals of the town's history — and the restored El Rey façade is a block from it.
