Serving Ripon
Relaxed, timeless family portraits for Ripon — in the Lodi studio or outdoors in the light your family actually lives in.
Families across Ripon trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Ripon and throughout the Central Valley.
Ripon is about 25 minutes south of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Family sessions run year-round, though autumn light books first — Ripon families planning around holiday cards usually reserve by late summer.
The Studio
Worth the drive to Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For family sessions the space is what matters — room enough to photograph three generations without anyone pressed against a wall, a lounge for whoever is not in front of the camera, and a playspace that buys the twenty minutes small children will not otherwise give you. Ripon families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Ripon
A little about Ripon
Ripon is the Almond Capital of the World: the first trees went in around 1909, and the Almond Blossom Festival has run every February since 1962, four days of parade and races that most of the town turns out for.
For families that means two settings a year rather than one. The orchards go white from late February into early March, and the same rows turn through the autumn — mile after mile of them, minutes from the middle of town. Between the two, the downtown is a few blocks and a park, small enough that children can be let off the lead.
The studio is about twenty-five minutes north for the rest of the year. Families who want the blossom book provisionally and confirm a few days out, because the bloom is brief and entirely at the mercy of the weather.
The two good windows are worth naming precisely. Late February into early March the orchards are white, and children in that light look like they are standing inside a snow globe; late October the same rows go gold before the leaves drop. Both last about a fortnight and neither can be scheduled far ahead, so a date is pencilled in for a range and confirmed a few days out once Jesica has looked at the trees. Between the two, the town park is small enough that nobody has to be watched every second, which parents of three notice immediately.
“We had such a wonderful experience with our family portraits. Jessica was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive — especially with our six-month-old.”

Ripon — good to know
Do you photograph Ripon families?
Yes — Ripon is part of our core service area, about 25 minutes south of Lodi. Ripon families book family sessions here every month.
Where do Ripon family sessions take place?
Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Ripon and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.
When should Ripon families book a family session?
Any time of year. Autumn is the busiest for outdoor family sessions around Ripon, so families wanting that light book it by late summer.
When is the best time for a family session in Ripon?
Late February into March, when the almond orchards bloom and the whole town goes white. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful fortnights anywhere in the valley and it is short, so it books early. October is the other good window, when the orchards turn.
Where do sessions happen?
The orchards, mostly — Ripon has been the Almond Capital of the World since the first trees went in around 1909, and the rows give even light and a natural corridor that open ground cannot. The town itself is small and unhurried and photographs honestly, which is its own kind of charm.
Is the bloom good with children?
Wonderful, and it is one of the easiest settings for them — soft ground, shade, rows to run down, and blossom coming off the trees. Children behave far better somewhere that is interesting to be, and an orchard in bloom is about as interesting as the valley gets.
What if the weather is against us?
The studio is twenty-five minutes north, which is a short fallback. The bloom is weather-dependent and brief, though, so Ripon sessions in February and March are booked with a spare evening held nearby wherever possible — it is worth the flexibility for those two weeks.
