Serving Lathrop
Relaxed, timeless family portraits for Lathrop — in the Lodi studio or outdoors in the light your family actually lives in.
Families across Lathrop trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Lathrop and throughout the Central Valley.
Lathrop is about 25 minutes south of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Family sessions run year-round, though autumn light books first — Lathrop families planning around holiday cards usually reserve by late summer.
The Studio
Worth the drive to Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For family sessions the space is what matters — room enough to photograph three generations without anyone pressed against a wall, a lounge for whoever is not in front of the camera, and a playspace that buys the twenty minutes small children will not otherwise give you. Lathrop families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Sessions for Lathrop families
Every session, all in one place
Lathrop
A little about Lathrop
Lathrop has changed faster than any town on this list. River Islands has put thousands of homes on the San Joaquin's edge in barely a decade, mostly bought by young families out of the Bay Area, and the place is still becoming what it will be.
The beauty is water rather than architecture: the river frontage, the lakes cut through the development, and long open sky in every direction. On a clear evening the light across that water is as good as anywhere in the county.
It is also flat, open and easy underfoot, which matters more with small children than a prettier but more awkward setting would. The studio is about twenty-five minutes north for the months when standing by a river is nobody's idea of an afternoon out.
The history is better than the newness suggests: this began as Wilson's Station, and it is here because Leland Stanford, in dispute with Stockton, took the railroad around the city and named the new stop for his brother-in-law, Charles Lathrop. It was a division point by 1871, quiet for most of a century, and only incorporated in 1989. River Islands — 4,800 acres behind wide levees — put the town back on the map in a decade. The levee paths are flat, wide and stroller-friendly, which with three children under six is worth more than a prettier setting.
“We had such a wonderful experience with our family portraits. Jessica was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive — especially with our six-month-old.”

Lathrop — good to know
Do you photograph Lathrop families?
Yes — Lathrop is part of our core service area, about 25 minutes south of Lodi. Lathrop families book family sessions here every month.
Where do Lathrop family sessions take place?
Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Lathrop and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.
When should Lathrop families book a family session?
Any time of year. Autumn is the busiest for outdoor family sessions around Lathrop, so families wanting that light book it by late summer.
Where do family sessions happen in Lathrop?
The river frontage and the lakes through River Islands, where the beauty is water rather than architecture. Long open sky, light across the water on a clear evening, and ground that is flat, open and easy underfoot — which matters more with small children than a prettier but more awkward setting ever would.
Is it a good place for young children?
Genuinely, yes, and the ease is the reason. Nothing to climb, nothing to scramble, and plenty of room. A session here is one of the least stressful on the list simply because the ground does not fight you, and that shows in the faces.
When should we book?
The last hour of daylight, because open water and long sky are the whole point here. Autumn is the busiest window as everywhere, so hold a date over the summer if you want October. The studio is twenty-five minutes north for the months when standing by a river is nobody's idea of an afternoon out.
We moved here from the Bay Area. Does that come up?
Constantly — most of River Islands did. It usually means grandparents are still an hour or two away and the photographs are doing more work than usual. Say so at booking and the session is built around it: parents properly in frame, and something printed to send rather than only a gallery link.
