A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For family sessions the space is what matters — room enough to photograph three generations without anyone pressed against a wall, a lounge for whoever is not in front of the camera, and a playspace that buys the twenty minutes small children will not otherwise give you. A little about Galt
Galt is fifteen minutes from the studio and the most agricultural town on this list, which for family sessions means the thing that is hardest to find anywhere else: uninterrupted golden hour with a real horizon and nothing in the background.
The downtown is small and honest — a few low blocks, a park, and an open-air market twice a week that has run here for generations and still draws people from three counties. It is not a restored main street and does not pretend to be, which photographs with more truth than charm.
It is also a town where families come back. A newborn session, a cake smash a year later, and a full family portrait when the grandparents visit is the ordinary pattern here rather than the exception — and being fifteen minutes out means the light can be tried again next week if tonight does not deliver.
The town is older and busier than its size suggests. The Central Pacific laid it out in 1869; the Brewster Building of 1882 still stands on Fourth Street on the National Register; the McFarland ranch is a living history museum in a house well past its centenary; and the market — Tuesdays and Wednesdays, one of the largest outdoor markets in California — draws something like three quarters of a million people a year. Old Town's brick now holds a cookie company and a tasting room. For a family that has been here generations, those few blocks are worth a frame.
