Serving Elk Grove
Relaxed, timeless family portraits for Elk Grove — in the Lodi studio or outdoors in the light your family actually lives in.
Families across Elk Grove trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Elk Grove and throughout the Central Valley.
Elk Grove is about 25 minutes north of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Family sessions run year-round, though autumn light books first — Elk Grove families planning around holiday cards usually reserve by late summer.
The Studio
Worth the drive to Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For family sessions the space is what matters — room enough to photograph three generations without anyone pressed against a wall, a lounge for whoever is not in front of the camera, and a playspace that buys the twenty minutes small children will not otherwise give you. Elk Grove families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Sessions for Elk Grove families
Every session, all in one place
Elk Grove
A little about Elk Grove
Elk Grove has been among California's fastest-growing cities for twenty years, which means a great many families with children close in age and, increasingly, grandparents who have moved to be near them. Multi-generation sessions are more common from here than from anywhere else on this list.
Old Town is where the town still looks like itself: Main Street protected under its own planning rules, the nineteenth-century frontages intact, and Old Town Plaza anchoring the end. It is a few blocks, but they are the right few blocks.
Elk Grove is a warm, family-shaped town and it shows in the ground it offers. Elk Grove Regional Park handles a group better than most — shade, structure and room to arrange eight people without anyone squinting into the sun. The studio is about twenty-five minutes south when the valley summer makes outdoors unreasonable.
Multi-generation sessions need a little more planning than a family of four, and it is worth saying what that looks like. Larger groups are photographed earlier in the session while everyone is fresh, then broken down into smaller combinations — grandparents with each set of grandchildren, the siblings together, each family on its own — so nobody stands about for an hour. Clothing is coordinated as a palette rather than a uniform. And with eight or ten people, the studio twenty-five minutes south is often the easier venue, because nothing depends on the weather everyone travelled for.
“We had such a wonderful experience with our family portraits. Jessica was incredibly sweet, patient, and attentive — especially with our six-month-old.”

Elk Grove — good to know
Do you photograph Elk Grove families?
Yes — Elk Grove is part of our core service area, about 25 minutes north of Lodi. Elk Grove families book family sessions here every month.
Where do Elk Grove family sessions take place?
Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Elk Grove and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.
When should Elk Grove families book a family session?
Any time of year. Autumn is the busiest for outdoor family sessions around Elk Grove, so families wanting that light book it by late summer.
We want the grandparents in the photographs. How does a larger group work?
Elk Grove books more multi-generation sessions than anywhere else served, so this is well practised. The full group is photographed early while everyone is still fresh, then broken into smaller combinations — grandparents with each set of grandchildren, the siblings together, each family on its own — so nobody stands about for an hour. Clothing is coordinated as a palette rather than a uniform.
Where do family sessions happen in Elk Grove?
Elk Grove Regional Park handles a group better than most local ground — shade, structure and room to arrange eight people without anyone squinting into the sun. Old Town is the other option and a handsome one: Main Street protected under its own planning rules, the nineteenth-century frontages intact, Old Town Plaza at the end. It is a few blocks, but they are the right few blocks.
Eight or ten of us in a valley summer. Indoors or out?
Indoors, usually. The studio is twenty-five minutes south and for a group that size it is often the easier venue anyway, because nothing depends on the weather everyone travelled for. When half the party has flown in for the week, taking the sky out of the equation is worth more than the setting.
How long should we allow?
Longer than a family of four — allow an hour and a half for a multi-generation group, because the value is in the smaller combinations rather than the one big picture, and those take time to work through. Everyone is not needed for the whole of it; the grandparents are usually done first and can sit down.
