Serving Elk Grove
Elegant maternity portraits for Elk Grove families — in the Lodi studio or outdoors, with a wardrobe of gowns to borrow.
Families across Elk Grove trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Elk Grove and throughout the Central Valley.
Elk Grove is about 25 minutes north of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Maternity sessions sit best between 32 and 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you are still comfortable on your feet — so Elk Grove families tend to book early in the third trimester.
The Studio
Worth the drive to Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Elk Grove families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Sessions for Elk Grove families
Every session, all in one place
Elk Grove
A little about Elk Grove
Elk Grove has been among California's fastest-growing cities for twenty years, and it grew the way young families grow. A great many of the maternity sessions booked from here are for first babies.
Old Town is where the town still looks like itself. Main Street sits under its own planning protection, so the nineteenth-century frontages survived the building boom intact, and Old Town Plaza anchors the end of it — a few blocks of genuine character in a city that is otherwise very new.
For outdoor work, Elk Grove Regional Park's oaks give the shade and the vertical structure that open grassland does not, and a long gown needs both. The studio is about twenty-five minutes south for anyone who would rather have controlled light and the full wardrobe to choose from.
The other thing Elk Grove has in quantity is open sky. Between the older town and the newer subdivisions there is still working farmland, and on a clear evening the western horizon there gives the long, low, uncluttered light that a floor-length gown was made for. It is the best argument for booking late rather than early in the day. For anyone due through the summer, when even the evening stays over ninety degrees for weeks at a stretch, the studio twenty-five minutes south is the more comfortable answer and the wardrobe is fuller there anyway.
“Loved working with Jesica! It was our first time ever doing a professional photoshoot and she made the experience so memorable and wonderful! She is very sweet and explained everything very well.”

Elk Grove — good to know
Do you photograph Elk Grove families?
Yes — Elk Grove is part of our core service area, about 25 minutes north of Lodi. Elk Grove families book maternity sessions here every month.
Where do Elk Grove maternity sessions take place?
Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Elk Grove and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.
When should Elk Grove families book a maternity session?
Between 32 and 36 weeks for the session itself, which means reaching out early in the third trimester. Multiples or modified activity are photographed earlier — say so and the date moves.
Where do outdoor maternity sessions happen in Elk Grove?
Elk Grove Regional Park is the main answer, and it is lovely ground — its oaks give the shade and the vertical structure that open grassland does not, and a long gown needs both. Old Town is the other: Main Street sits under its own planning protection, so the nineteenth-century frontages survived the building boom intact, with Old Town Plaza anchoring the end.
What time of day works best?
Late, and it is worth being firm about it. Between the older town and the newer subdivisions there is still working farmland, and on a clear evening the western horizon gives the long, low, uncluttered light a floor-length gown was made for. It is the single best argument for booking the last slot of the day rather than the convenient one.
I am due through the summer. Is outdoors realistic?
Honestly, often not. An Elk Grove evening can stay above ninety degrees for weeks at a stretch, and standing in a gown in that is nobody's idea of a good afternoon. The studio is twenty-five minutes south, the light there does not care what the sky is doing, and the wardrobe is fuller there anyway. Plenty of summer sessions are photographed indoors for exactly that reason.
Do I need to bring a gown?
No. There is a wardrobe of maternity gowns at the studio to borrow, with sizing and colour settled at booking rather than on the day. Bring something of your own as well if there is a piece you love — a great many sessions use both.
