Maternity Photographer in Sacramento, CA

Serving Sacramento

Elegant maternity portraits for Sacramento families — in the Lodi studio or outdoors, with a wardrobe of gowns to borrow.

Families across Sacramento trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 224 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Sacramento and throughout the Central Valley.

Sacramento is about 40 minutes north of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Maternity sessions sit best between 32 and 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you are still comfortable on your feet — so Sacramento families tend to book early in the third trimester.

The Studio

Worth the drive to Lodi

The Jesica Allen Photography studio in Lodi, CA, serving Sacramento families

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.

For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Sacramento families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Sacramento

A little about Sacramento

Sacramento's tree canopy is among the densest of any American city, and for maternity work that matters more than it sounds: it turns hard afternoon sun into something usable a full hour before open ground becomes workable.

The American River Parkway runs for miles of that shade and is the obvious choice. The prettier one is McKinley Park's rose garden, which peaks through April and May, or the Victorian streets of Midtown and East Sacramento where the trees close over the road entirely. Old Sacramento's boardwalks and iron frontages are there too, though they photograph better early, before the crowds.

Sacramento is about forty minutes north of the studio, which is close enough that the gown wardrobe is a real option rather than a theoretical one. A good number of Sacramento families photograph outdoors in April or October and come to the studio in the months either side.

It is worth naming the rest of what the city offers, because most families only think of the parkway. The Capitol's grounds are an arboretum in their own right, planted with trees from around the world; Land Park has the ponds and the old oaks; and the grid of Midtown alleys, with their brick and iron and murals, gives an urban alternative to all that greenery for anyone who does not want a soft-focus field. Sacramento is a city with genuine variety in it, which for a maternity session means the pictures can look like a choice rather than a default.

My husband and I had newborn photography done by Jesica and she is so professional, friendly, and approachable. We love, love, LOVE the photos we had done. She is very good at directing us in the pictures — her years of experience really show.
