Serving Lodi
Elegant maternity portraits for Lodi families — in the Lodi studio or outdoors, with a wardrobe of gowns to borrow.
Families across Lodi trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Lodi and throughout the Central Valley.
Every session takes place in her private studio in the heart of downtown Lodi. Maternity sessions sit best between 32 and 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you are still comfortable on your feet — so Lodi families tend to book early in the third trimester.
The Studio
Right here in Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Lodi
A little about Lodi
The vineyards are the reason maternity portraits here look the way they do. Lodi has the highest concentration of old vines in California, and the rows hold light long into the evening — best from late August through the October harvest, when the leaves turn and the fruit is still hanging.
Downtown is the other half of it. School Street was rebuilt in the late nineties with brick roadway and gold-inlaid sidewalks, the sycamores planted then are thirty feet tall now, and the whole thing runs up to the Mission Arch — forty feet of 1907 masonry with a gold-leafed California bear on top. On a summer evening with the wine strolls out it is genuinely lovely, and it photographs far better than most valley main streets have any right to.
Lodi Lake and the Mokelumne give a softer, greener option in spring, with cottonwoods and water. Whichever you choose, the studio is minutes away — so a session can start in the vines at golden hour and finish inside with the gown wardrobe if the wind gets up, which in this valley it often does.
One thing worth knowing about the timing: crush runs from late August into October, and during it the vineyards are working ground with trucks and crews in them, which is part of the atmosphere rather than a problem but does mean a session is placed with some care. Early October, after the fruit is in and before the leaves drop, is the sweet spot most years. Micke Grove's gardens are the fallback when the rows are busy, and Lodi Lake in April is the softer, greener alternative for anyone due in the summer.
“Loved working with Jesica! It was our first time ever doing a professional photoshoot and she made the experience so memorable and wonderful! She is very sweet and explained everything very well.”

Lodi — good to know
Do you photograph Lodi families?
Yes — the studio is in Lodi, and Lodi families are photographed here every week of the year.
Where do Lodi maternity sessions take place?
Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Lodi and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.
When should Lodi families book a maternity session?
Between 32 and 36 weeks for the session itself, which means reaching out early in the third trimester. Multiples or modified activity are photographed earlier — say so and the date moves.
Where do outdoor maternity sessions actually happen in Lodi?
Three, and Lodi is spoilt for all of them. The old-vine rows are the reason maternity portraits here look the way they do — this town grows more Zinfandel than anywhere in California and holds the highest concentration of old vines in the state, and the rows keep light long into the evening. Lodi Lake and the Mokelumne give something greener and softer, especially in spring. And School Street downtown, with its brick roadway and the Mission Arch, when you want the town itself in the frame., which are the reason Lodi maternity portraits look the way they do and are at their best from late August through the October harvest. Lodi Lake and the Mokelumne for something greener and softer, particularly in spring. And School Street downtown, with the brick roadway and the Mission Arch, when you want the town in the picture rather than the country.
When in the year is best?
Early October, most years — after the fruit is in and before the leaves drop, when the rows have turned and the evenings are still long. Crush runs from late August into October and the vineyards are working ground during it, with trucks and crews about, so a session then is placed with some care rather than avoided. If you are due in the summer, April at Lodi Lake is the softer alternative and every bit as good.
Do I need to bring my own gown?
Not unless you want to. There is a wardrobe of maternity gowns at the studio to borrow, and sizing and colour are settled at booking rather than on the day, so nothing has to be bought for one afternoon. Bring something of your own as well if there is a piece you love — a great many sessions use both.
What happens if the weather turns?
The studio is minutes from all three locations, so a session can begin in the vines at golden hour and finish indoors with the gown wardrobe if the wind gets up — which in this valley it often does, and usually with little warning. That is one session rather than two, and it is not charged as a rebooking.
