Maternity Photographer in Tracy, CA

Serving Tracy

Elegant maternity portraits for Tracy families — in the Lodi studio or outdoors, with a wardrobe of gowns to borrow.

Families across Tracy trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Tracy and throughout the Central Valley.

Tracy is about 40 minutes southwest of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Maternity sessions sit best between 32 and 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you are still comfortable on your feet — so Tracy families tend to book early in the third trimester.

The Studio

Worth the drive to Lodi

The Jesica Allen Photography studio in Lodi, CA, serving Tracy families

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.

For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Tracy families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Tracy

A little about Tracy

Tracy sits where the Altamont drops out of the Bay Area into the valley, and the farmland around it still sets the tone: open sky, long light, and a horizon you can actually see.

The old downtown around Central Avenue keeps its railroad-junction bones — Tracy grew up as a rail town and the grid still shows it. It is a working main street rather than a restored one, which photographs honestly rather than prettily.

That openness is exactly what a maternity session wants at golden hour and exactly what it does not want at midday, since there is almost no shade anywhere. Sessions here are booked late in the day for that reason. The studio is about forty minutes east if you would rather have the gowns and light that does not depend on the sky.

If the open farmland feels too plain, the Grand Theatre on Central Avenue is the answer. It went up in 1923 for vaudeville and silent pictures, gained a sculptural art deco marquee at the end of the thirties, closed in 1977 and reopened in 2007 as an arts centre after the city restored the whole complex. Since 2015 its walls and the old market building beside it have carried a rotating mural project, repainted as new work comes in — so a session there this year will not look like one photographed two years ago, which is rarer than it sounds.

Loved working with Jesica! It was our first time ever doing a professional photoshoot and she made the experience so memorable and wonderful! She is very sweet and explained everything very well.

Tracy — good to know

Do you photograph Tracy families?

Yes — Tracy is part of our core service area, about 40 minutes southwest of Lodi. Tracy families book maternity sessions here every month.

Where do Tracy maternity sessions take place?

Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Tracy and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.

When should Tracy families book a maternity session?

Between 32 and 36 weeks for the session itself, which means reaching out early in the third trimester. Multiples or modified activity are photographed earlier — say so and the date moves.

Where do outdoor maternity sessions happen in Tracy?

The farmland around town is the draw, and it is wonderful ground — open sky, long light, and a horizon you can actually see, which is rarer than it sounds. For something with more architecture in it, the Grand Theatre on Central Avenue and the rotating murals along its walls give a genuinely handsome and quite unusual backdrop.

Why are sessions always booked so late in the day?

Because there is almost no shade anywhere, and that openness is exactly what a maternity session wants at golden hour and exactly what it does not want at midday. The last hour here is extraordinary. Booking the final slot of the day is not a preference, it is the whole plan.

Tell me about the murals.

They are one of the nicest things about Tracy. Since 2015 the Grand Theatre's walls and the old market building beside it have carried a rotating mural project, repainted as new work comes in — so a session photographed there this year will not look like one photographed two years ago. Very few small towns can say that, and it is a lovely reason to come back.

What if I would rather be indoors?

The studio is about forty minutes east, with the gown wardrobe and light that does not depend on the sky. Plenty of Tracy families photograph outdoors in spring or autumn and come indoors through the valley summer, which is sensible — and gives two quite different sets of pictures rather than the same one twice.
