Serving Stockton

Elegant maternity portraits for Stockton families — in the Lodi studio or outdoors, with a wardrobe of gowns to borrow.

Families across Stockton trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Stockton and throughout the Central Valley.

Stockton is about 20 minutes south of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Maternity sessions sit best between 32 and 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you are still comfortable on your feet — so Stockton families tend to book early in the third trimester.

The Studio

Worth the drive to Lodi

The Jesica Allen Photography studio in Lodi, CA, serving Stockton families

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.

For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Stockton families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Stockton

A little about Stockton

Stockton sits on the edge of the California Delta and its thousand-odd miles of waterway, and the water does something to the light — softer than the rest of the valley, and slower to go hard through the summer. It is the single best reason to photograph here rather than inland.

The University of the Pacific, chartered in 1851 and the oldest university in California, has red-brick quads and mature planting that make it the handsomest ground in the city. Victory Park wraps around the Haggin Museum, and the Miracle Mile still carries the shopfronts and neon of the decade it was built in.

The studio is about twenty minutes north, which makes Stockton one of the easiest drives on this list — close enough that a maternity session can be outdoors at the Delta's edge one week and in the studio with the gowns the next, without either feeling like an expedition.

The Delta itself is the setting most Stockton families overlook and the one worth asking about. The levee roads north of the city run between water on both sides, with the tule fog burning off late on a winter morning and the light coming off the surface from underneath — genuinely unlike anywhere else within an hour. It suits a maternity session better than it suits most work, because it wants stillness rather than movement. Twenty minutes back to the studio if the wind comes up off the water, which on the Delta it can do without much warning.

Loved working with Jesica! It was our first time ever doing a professional photoshoot and she made the experience so memorable and wonderful! She is very sweet and explained everything very well.

Stockton — good to know

Do you photograph Stockton families?

Yes — Stockton is part of our core service area, about 20 minutes south of Lodi. Stockton families book maternity sessions here every month.

Where do Stockton maternity sessions take place?

Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Stockton and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.

When should Stockton families book a maternity session?

Between 32 and 36 weeks for the session itself, which means reaching out early in the third trimester. Multiples or modified activity are photographed earlier — say so and the date moves.

Where do outdoor maternity sessions happen in Stockton?

The Delta levee roads north of the city are the setting most Stockton families overlook and easily the one most worth asking about — water on both sides and light coming off the surface from underneath, genuinely unlike anywhere else within an hour. Victory Park, wrapped around the Haggin Museum, and the red-brick quads of the University of the Pacific, chartered in 1851 and the oldest university in California, are the handsomest ground in the city itself and a real pleasure to photograph in. and the one worth asking about — water on both sides and light coming off the surface from underneath, unlike anywhere else within an hour. Victory Park, wrapped around the Haggin Museum, and the red-brick quads of the University of the Pacific are the handsomest ground in the city itself. The Miracle Mile if you want shopfronts and neon rather than trees.

How far is the studio from Stockton?

About twenty minutes north, which is short enough that outdoors and indoors stop being an either-or. A maternity session can be at the Delta's edge one week and in the studio with the gown wardrobe the next without either feeling like an expedition — and it is short enough to abandon the outdoor plan mid-afternoon if the weather turns.

What time of year works best here?

Spring and autumn, when the Delta light is at its softest and the afternoons have not gone hard. Winter has its own argument: the tule fog burns off late on a Delta morning and what it leaves behind is unlike anything the rest of the year offers. Midsummer afternoons are the one stretch worth planning around, and those sessions move to the last hour of light.

What if the wind comes up off the water?

It does, on the Delta, and often without much warning. Twenty minutes back to the studio is the answer, and it is treated as one session rather than a rebooking. The gown wardrobe is there, so a session that started on a levee road can finish indoors with nothing lost but the background.
