Maternity Photographer in Roseville, CA

Serving Roseville

Elegant maternity portraits for Roseville families — in the Lodi studio or outdoors, with a wardrobe of gowns to borrow.

Families across Roseville trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 224 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Roseville and throughout the Central Valley.

Roseville is about an hour north of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Maternity sessions sit best between 32 and 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you are still comfortable on your feet — so Roseville families tend to book early in the third trimester.

The Studio

Worth the drive to Lodi

The Jesica Allen Photography studio in Lodi, CA, serving Roseville families

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.

For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Roseville families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Roseville

A little about Roseville

Roseville began as a railroad crossing — Junction, where the Central Pacific line met the little Lincoln-to-Folsom road in 1864 — and became a city when Southern Pacific moved its yard here in 1906. Vernon Street was one of five streets named in the original layout, and it is still the one the town turns around. It has kept more of itself than most towns that grew this fast, which is a large part of why Jesica enjoys working here.

The Roseville she photographs most, though, is the one along the creeks. Miners Ravine runs from the nature reserve down Dry Creek through oak woodland and open meadow before it reaches the older part of town, and the oaks are the whole point — valley oak gives high, broken shade that stays photographable long after open ground has gone flat and white. It is lovely ground, and quiet in a way that surprises people who only know Roseville from the freeway.

Maidu Regional Park is the other setting worth the drive: a hundred and fifty acres off Rocky Ridge Drive, the rose garden for something formal, the oak edges for something softer. Between the two there is a real choice of frames within ten minutes of each other, which matters far more than any single beautiful spot does.

Timing is what Roseville asks of you, and it is worth getting right. The valley heat runs late into the season here and the light on open ground is unusable through the middle of the day from May onward, so maternity sessions are photographed in the last ninety minutes before sunset, or early on a summer morning. Roseville is about an hour from the studio and Jesica is up this way regularly, so these are planned around the light rather than squeezed into a diary — and if the sky is wrong on the day, moving it is easier than fighting it.

My husband and I had newborn photography done by Jesica and she is so professional, friendly, and approachable. We love, love, LOVE the photos we had done. She is very good at directing us in the pictures — her years of experience really show.
