A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Auburn families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

A little about Auburn
Auburn is where the gold rush stuck. Claude Chana found gold here in May 1848, the North Fork Dry Diggings became a town of fifteen hundred inside a year, and Placer County put its seat here in 1851 — and unlike most of Gold Country it never went quiet afterwards. Old Town still stands on the ground the first camps were pitched on, and it is a genuinely beautiful place to spend a morning.
For maternity portraits it is the canyon rather than the town that earns the drive, and it earns it easily. The Auburn State Recreation Area follows forty miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American River, and the Confluence, where the two meet, is the one setting within reach of this studio that gives you water, rock and real elevation in a single frame. Jesica loves photographing up here, and it shows in the work.
The Stagecoach Trail climbs out of the Confluence in under two miles and looks back down the canyon — the wide frame people picture when they picture the foothills. The oak woodland on the way up does the quieter work: broken shade, warm ground, and a background with depth in it rather than an open field.
This is a session to plan properly, and worth planning. Auburn is about an hour and fifteen minutes from the studio, the canyon holds its heat well into the evening in summer, and the light down at the water goes early because the walls are steep — so the usable window is narrower than it looks. Spring and October are the kind months, late afternoon is the hour, and sensible shoes matter more here than on any other session this studio photographs.

Where do maternity sessions happen in Auburn?
The Confluence is the great one — where the North and Middle Forks of the American River meet, in the Auburn State Recreation Area, with canyon walls and water and a scale you simply cannot find on the valley floor. Old Town is the other, climbing the hill below the Placer County Courthouse, all brick and iron and gold rush frontage. Auburn is spoilt for settings in a way most towns are not.
When is the best time of year?
Spring and October. The canyon greens up beautifully through spring, and October gives the low gold light that the Gold Country was practically named for. High summer in the canyon is hot enough to be worth planning around, so those sessions move to the last hour of the day.
It is over an hour. Is that really worth it?
Auburn families think so, and they are the ones driving. But be assured nobody is asked to drive an hour and a quarter for something they could get at home — the reason to come is the gown wardrobe, the private room and unhurried time. Plenty of families photograph the canyon in the evening and come to the studio in the months either side.
Do I need to bring my own gown?
No. The studio keeps a wardrobe of maternity gowns to borrow, sized and chosen at booking rather than on the day. If you are photographing at the Confluence, bring something of your own too — strong colour against that canyon rock is a lovely thing.
