Maternity Photographer in Lathrop, CA
Serving Lathrop
Elegant maternity portraits for Lathrop families — in the Lodi studio or outdoors, with a wardrobe of gowns to borrow.
Families across Lathrop trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Lathrop and throughout the Central Valley.
Lathrop is about 25 minutes south of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Maternity sessions sit best between 32 and 36 weeks, when the bump is round and you are still comfortable on your feet — so Lathrop families tend to book early in the third trimester.
The Studio
Worth the drive to Lodi

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.
For maternity sessions the wardrobe is the draw — a collection of flowing gowns in soft neutral tones to borrow rather than buy, in a range of sizes, with somewhere private to change and no rush about any of it. Lathrop families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Sessions for Lathrop families

Lathrop
A little about Lathrop
Lathrop has changed faster than any town here. River Islands has put thousands of homes on the San Joaquin's edge in barely a decade, drawing young families out of the Bay Area, and most of its maternity sessions are for first babies.
It is a new town, so the beauty is water rather than architecture: the river frontage, the lakes cut through the development, and long open sky. On a clear evening the light across that water is as good as anywhere in the county.
Level ground matters more at thirty-four weeks than photographers tend to admit, and Lathrop has it in abundance — no scrambling down a riverbank in a floor-length gown. The studio is about twenty-five minutes north for the months when standing outdoors is no fun at all.
The town is newer in its present shape than almost anywhere in the state, but its origins are not: it began as Wilson's Station, took its name from Leland Stanford's brother-in-law when Stanford routed the railroad around Stockton rather than through it, and was a rail division point by 1871 before declining for most of a century. It only incorporated in 1989. River Islands — 4,800 acres inside wide levees, where most of today's families live — went up in barely a decade, which is why the water is the landscape and the trees have not caught up yet.
“Loved working with Jesica! It was our first time ever doing a professional photoshoot and she made the experience so memorable and wonderful! She is very sweet and explained everything very well.”

Lathrop — good to know
Do you photograph Lathrop families?
Yes — Lathrop is part of our core service area, about 25 minutes south of Lodi. Lathrop families book maternity sessions here every month.
Where do Lathrop maternity sessions take place?
Either in the private Lodi studio or outdoors around Lathrop and the Central Valley — whichever suits the look you want. Studio sessions have the wardrobe and the controlled light; outdoor sessions have the setting your family already knows.
When should Lathrop families book a maternity session?
Between 32 and 36 weeks for the session itself, which means reaching out early in the third trimester. Multiples or modified activity are photographed earlier — say so and the date moves.
Where do maternity sessions happen in Lathrop?
The water, which is Lathrop's real beauty — the San Joaquin river frontage and the lakes cut through River Islands, with long open sky in every direction. On a clear evening the light across that water is as good as anywhere in the county, and that is not a small claim.
I am worried about scrambling around at thirty-four weeks.
You will not have to, and Lathrop is unusually good on this point. The ground here is flat, open and easy underfoot throughout — no riverbanks to climb down in a floor-length gown. It matters more at thirty-four weeks than photographers tend to admit, and it is one of the quiet reasons this town photographs so well.
When is the best time of day?
The last hour before sunset, without much argument. The whole appeal here is light across open water and long sky, and that is when it happens. The studio is twenty-five minutes north for the months when standing outdoors is no fun at all.
The town is so new. Is there any history to it?
More than the newness suggests, and it is a good story. This began as Wilson's Station, and it is here because Leland Stanford, in dispute with Stockton, routed the railroad around the city and named the new stop for his brother-in-law, Charles Lathrop. It was a rail division point by 1871.
