Newborn Photographer in Auburn, CA

Serving Auburn

Timeless newborn portraits for Auburn families — photographed in a private studio in the heart of Lodi.

Families across Auburn trust Jesica Allen Photography with their most precious moments. For seventeen years and 227 five-star reviews, Jesica has photographed newborns, maternity, milestones, cake smashes, and families from Auburn and throughout the Central Valley.

Auburn is about an hour and fifteen minutes north-east of Lodi, so every session is an easy trip to her private studio in downtown Lodi. Newborn dates are held by your estimated due date rather than by the calendar, so a handful of Auburn families reserve theirs each month — the earlier you reach out, the better.

The Studio

Worth the drive to Lodi

The Jesica Allen Photography studio in Lodi, CA, serving Auburn families

A world-class 3,000 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Lodi, built entirely around families — a private kitchenette, a private family living room, and a private changing and feeding room, plus a children's make-believe playspace to keep little ones happy through the session.

For newborn sessions the room is the whole point: held at eighty degrees, sound kept low, and every wrap, headband and prop laid out before you arrive. Nothing has to be fetched, and nobody has to wait with a cold baby. Auburn families arrive, settle in, and leave the rest to Jesica.

Auburn

A little about Auburn

Auburn exists because Claude Chana found gold here in May 1848, months after Marshall's strike at Sutter's Mill. Thousands came for what was first called the North Fork Dry Diggings; it was a town of fifteen hundred within a year and Placer County's seat by 1851. Unlike most of what the gold rush threw up, it never emptied out — and it is, without much argument, one of the loveliest towns within reach of this studio.

What that left is one of the most intact Gold Country downtowns in California. Old Town sits on the ground the first camps were pitched on, the streets follow the paths miners walked, and the Placer County Courthouse — four years in the building, 1894 to 1898, clock tower and all — still looks down over the whole of it from the hill. Jesica never quite tires of the drive up.

Newborn sessions are photographed in the Lodi studio rather than in Auburn, and that is not a preference. A newborn session needs a room held at eighty degrees, every wrap within reach and no doorbell, and none of that travels in a bag. It is the one session where coming to the studio is straightforwardly better than being visited.

Auburn is about an hour and fifteen minutes from the studio, sixty-seven miles down out of the foothills, and that is a real ask with a newborn — so it is worth saying what it buys. Newborn dates are held against the due date rather than fixed to a morning, so the drive is made once, on a day chosen when the baby is ready. Auburn families are among Jesica's favourites and often pair it with a maternity session in the canyon a few weeks earlier, which turns two long drives into one decision made once.

Auburn — good to know

Do you photograph Auburn families?

Yes — Auburn is part of our core service area, about an hour and fifteen minutes north-east of Lodi. Auburn families book newborn sessions here every month.

Where do Auburn newborn sessions take place?

In the private Lodi studio. Newborn work needs steady warmth, a controlled room and every wrap and prop within reach, which is why it is not photographed in homes or outdoors.

When should Auburn families book a newborn session?

Reserve your date by your due date, ideally in the second or third trimester. Auburn-area newborn dates fill quickly because each one is held against a birth rather than a calendar slot.

Auburn is a fair way out. Is the drive manageable?

About an hour and a quarter, and Auburn families make it gladly — it is one of the loveliest drives of anywhere served, dropping out of the Gold Country into the valley. The session is booked as a morning with nothing after it, two to three hours paced entirely by the baby, with a private family room and somewhere to feed and change already set up.

Why does it have to be at the studio?

Because eighty degrees, steady light and every wrap within arm's reach are a room rather than a bag. From an hour and a quarter away that trade is even clearer: the drive is made once, and what it buys is a session that depends on neither the weather nor a thermostat.

When should we book?

Second or third trimester, held against your due date rather than pinned to a date in the diary. That flexibility matters most from Auburn, because the trip is made once — on a day chosen when the baby is actually ready rather than one picked months earlier.

Is Auburn itself ever photographed?

Not in the newborn session, but do come back — Auburn is a wonderful town to photograph. Old Town climbs the hill below the Placer County Courthouse, which has stood over the whole of it since the end of the 1890s, and the Confluence, where the North and Middle Forks of the American River meet, is genuinely spectacular ground.
