Sacramento is the City of Trees in earnest: the canopy over the midtown grid is among the densest of any American city, and it is the reason the light there stays usable an hour longer than it does on open valley ground. The farm-to-fork movement grew out of the same soil Lodi's vineyards sit in, forty minutes south.
Midtown's Victorian streets and Old Sacramento's boardwalks are the obvious beauty, but the quieter pleasure is the neighbourhoods — East Sacramento and Land Park, where the trees close over the road entirely and every second house has a porch worth photographing from.
Newborn sessions come to the Lodi studio rather than to Sacramento homes, and the reason is practical: a newborn needs the room at eighty degrees, every wrap and prop within reach, and no doorbell. That is not something a photographer can carry up a flight of stairs in a bag. Forty minutes each way buys a session that does not depend on the weather or the thermostat.
